Colorbond steel is Australia's most specified commercial and residential roofing product, and for good reason. Manufactured by BlueScope Steel in Australia, Colorbond has been engineered specifically for Australian conditions — the intense UV radiation, extreme temperature variation, coastal salt exposure and severe storm events that define this country's climate. No imported product comes close to matching its performance, longevity and range.

But even the best roofing product on the market only performs as well as its installation. Incorrect fixing centres, inadequate laps, poorly detailed flashings and penetrations, and incorrectly graded gutters will create problems on a Colorbond roof just as readily as on any other system. The quality of the installation is as important as the quality of the product.

A D Roofing has over 15 years of experience installing Colorbond roofing on commercial, industrial and residential buildings across NSW, ACT and Queensland. Our licensed roof plumbers install every Colorbond roof in strict accordance with BlueScope's installation requirements and Australian Standards — ensuring you get the full benefit of the product's performance and warranty.

Our teams operate across Sydney, Newcastle, Wollongong, Canberra, Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Call 0434 058 186 for a free Colorbond roofing quote.

    Why Colorbond?

Colorbond steel's dominance of the Australian roofing market is the result of decades of product development specifically for Australian conditions. Key advantages include:

Durability. Colorbond steel is manufactured using BlueScope's ZINCALUME steel base — a zinc-aluminium alloy coating that provides outstanding corrosion resistance across the full range of Australian environments, from inland NSW to coastal Queensland. Pre-painted with BlueScope's Activate technology and top-coated with a durable polyester finish, Colorbond resists cracking, chipping, peeling and fading in conditions that would rapidly degrade lesser products.

Thermatech solar reflectance technology. Colorbond roofing incorporates BlueScope's Thermatech technology in lighter colours — a solar reflectance system that reflects more of the sun's energy than conventional roof coatings, reducing roof surface temperatures and the cooling load on the building below. For commercial and industrial buildings in NSW, ACT and Queensland, Thermatech can deliver meaningful reductions in summer cooling costs.

Colour retention. Colorbond's palette of colours is engineered for long-term colour stability in Australian UV conditions. The colours you specify when the roof is installed remain true for the life of the product — no fading, chalking or colour shift that would require repainting.

Lightweight. Colorbond steel roofing is significantly lighter than concrete tile or fibrecement alternatives, reducing structural loads and allowing for more economical structural design on commercial and industrial buildings.

Low maintenance. A Colorbond roof correctly installed in accordance with BlueScope's requirements needs no periodic repainting, re-coating or surface treatment. Periodic cleaning in coastal environments is the only maintenance requirement for most applications.

Comprehensive colour and profile range. Colorbond is available in a palette of 22 standard colours — from traditional heritage tones to contemporary neutrals and bold architectural statements — and in a wide range of roofing profiles to suit every commercial and residential application.

    Colorbond Roofing Profiles We Install

    Corrugated (Custom Orb)

The classic Australian roofing profile. Custom Orb is versatile, cost-effective and suitable for a wide range of commercial, industrial and residential applications. It is the most common profile on older commercial buildings being re-roofed and is often specified for heritage and farm buildings.

    Trimdek

A bold-ribbed trapezoidal profile with a wide pan between ribs — one of the most widely specified profiles on modern commercial and industrial buildings in NSW, ACT and Queensland. Suitable for roof pitches from 2° with the correct lapping and sealing details.

    Klip-Lok

A concealed-fix profile — no exposed fasteners on the roof surface — suitable for roof pitches from 1° and widely specified on modern commercial buildings where a clean, contemporary aesthetic is required. Klip-Lok's concealed fixing system also eliminates the washer-seal failures that are a common maintenance issue on exposed-fix systems.

    Spandek

A long-span trapezoidal profile suitable for commercial and industrial buildings where wide purlin spacing is required. Spandek's high rib profile provides excellent spanning capacity and drainage performance.

    Topdek

A high-performance concealed-fix profile designed for low-pitch commercial roofing applications. Topdek provides an exceptionally clean roofline with no visible fasteners and outstanding weather resistance at low pitches.

The A D Roofing Colorbond Installation Process

    1. Free Site Assessment and Quote

We visit your property and assess the existing or planned roof structure, pitch, span and exposure environment. For re-roofing projects we assess the condition of the existing purlin or rafter structure and advise on any required repairs before new Colorbond is installed. You receive a written quote covering the complete installation scope.

    2. Profile and Colour Selection

We present the full Colorbond profile and colour range and provide advice on the most appropriate selection for your building type, pitch, structural span and aesthetic requirements. For commercial and industrial projects, profile and colour selection often has implications for structural requirements, so we engage in this discussion early in the process.

    3. Material Procurement

We order all materials directly from BlueScope-authorised distributors, ensuring all products are genuine Colorbond — not substitutes or imported alternatives. Long-run Colorbond sheeting is typically cut to length at the roll-former, minimising end laps and the associated weatherproofing complexity.

    4. Safety Planning and Site Establishment

All required safety documentation is prepared before mobilisation. On site, we establish fall protection systems, access equipment and all required safety infrastructure before any roofing work commences.

    5. Colorbond Installation

Our licensed roof plumbers install the Colorbond roofing system in strict accordance with BlueScope's installation manual and AS 1562.1 (metal roofing). All fixings are the correct type and are installed at the correct centres for the specified wind region and roof configuration. All laps are correctly formed and sealed. All cut edges are treated with a compatible touch-up paint to prevent cut-edge corrosion.

    6. Flashings, Gutters and Penetrations

All ridge, hip, valley, barge and penetration flashings are installed using compatible Colorbond materials — colour-matched to the selected roof colour where external flashings are visible. Box gutters, fascia gutters and downpipes are installed in correctly graded runs with all joints properly sealed.

    7. Final Inspection and Handover

We conduct a full quality inspection of the completed Colorbond installation. You receive BlueScope product warranty information, our written workmanship guarantee and photographic documentation of the completed works.

    Still have a question?

    0434 058 186
How long does a Colorbond roof last?

A correctly installed and maintained Colorbond roof in a typical NSW, ACT or Queensland inland environment will last 40–50+ years. In coastal environments, BlueScope's Colorbond Ultra product — with enhanced ZINCALUME Ultra base coating — is specified for maximum corrosion resistance.

What is the difference between Colorbond and Zincalume?

Both are BlueScope Steel products using a zinc-aluminium alloy base coating. The difference is that Colorbond has a pre-painted colour finish applied over the ZINCALUME base, while Zincalume is the unpainted base metal. Colorbond is specified where appearance is important and colour continuity is required. Zincalume is typically specified for industrial applications where the unpainted metallic finish is acceptable and cost is the primary driver.

Does Colorbond come with a warranty?

Yes. BlueScope provides a product warranty on genuine Colorbond roofing. A D Roofing also provides a separate written workmanship guarantee on the installation.

Do you install Colorbond in all six cities you service?

Yes. A D Roofing installs Colorbond roofing across Sydney, Newcastle, Wollongong, Canberra, Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
